Wizap!: King of Darkness -- English translation
Version 1.3.1-beta (2026-10-18)
================================================================================

Original Japanese release: Wizap! Ankoku no Ou, ASCII (developed by SAS Sakata),
1994, Super Famicom (SNES).

ABOUT
-----

An English translation of Wizap!: King of Darkness (Wizap! Ankoku no Ou), a
Super Famicom role-playing game released only in Japan. The story is told in
episodes, each opening with its own title card. This is a free fan translation,
made independently: no other team's patches, scripts or tools were used. The
patch contains no game data; you apply it to your own copy of the Japanese
cartridge.

WHAT YOU NEED
-------------

You need your own copy of the Japanese cartridge, dumped to a file. The patch
applies to this exact ROM (No-Intro set name "Wizap! - Ankoku no Ou (Japan)"),
headerless:

  Size 2,097,152 bytes
  CRC32 630F8D0D
  MD5 4545954576ba00a92dd8a21e95142b95
  SHA-1 b144609c720df7303bf03d566d28a376dc59b559

Header note: if your file is 2,097,664 bytes, it carries a 512-byte copier
header. Remove the header first, then check the hashes above.

HOW TO PATCH
------------

  1. Check that your ROM matches the hashes above (headerless).
  2. Apply Wizap_EN_v1.3.1-beta.bps to it with Flips (Floating IPS),
RomPatcher.js (runs in a web browser) or beat. BPS patches check the source
checksum, so if the patcher refuses your file, your dump is different
(headered, a bad dump, or another revision).
  3. Play the patched file in an accurate emulator or on a flash cartridge.

  The patched ROM should match:

  Size 4,194,304 bytes
  CRC32 9EC8EF99
  MD5 646952c0f311171509e8bc6c825e9488
  SHA-1 83e0bc7137f2c2963e3f33ba0555ee13fae0136c

  Patch file Wizap_EN_v1.3.1-beta.bps (1,313,713 bytes)
  Patch SHA-1 f2e5b1d6c481a6d0766964172109a8911fbefb4f

STATUS
------

The whole game is translated: the story, the town and battle menus, items,
spells, classes, the character creation panel, the shops, the episode title
cards and the save screens. The menu art is relettered in English. Short stat
labels (STR, DEF, INT, DEX, AGI, VIT, GRD and ATK and ARM on equipment) are used
where the original art boxes have no room for whole words; whole words stay
wherever they fit. Checked by playing from power-on through the opening, the
town and a battle, and from the town to the first episode card, plus every text
read back from the patched game. The story, the town and the episode cards are
set in an old-style serif typeface drawn for the game's text boxes; the fixed
menus keep a compact face.

KNOWN ISSUES
------------

  - The ending and the later maps were not played through by a tester. Please
report anything that looks wrong, with a screenshot and where you were in
    the story.

CHANGELOG
---------

  v1.3.1-beta (2026-10-18)
    - Shop prices of 50 now show their digits. In 1.3.0 a price of 50 drew stray
kana in place of the number.
    - The letter "k" in the story font is redrawn so it reads clearly.
  First public beta (2026-10-16)
    - First public release.

This translation was made by CODEC BABEL's AI agents. Agents extracted the
script, translated it, rebuilt the game's text and art, and tested the patched
game in an emulator, under the direction of the project's human lead.

LEGAL
-----

This is a free, non-commercial fan translation. It is not affiliated with or
endorsed by the original publisher, and the game remains theirs. The patch holds
no game data: it only works on a copy of the game you own. Do not ask for ROMs
or disc images, and do not share patched files. Sell nothing made with this
patch.
